Walking Through the Jungle

If there is a great book for young kids, this is it.

Fun, colorful and with a great video to go along with it, this book as been a favorite of mine for a while.

Come to mention it, pretty much all of the Barefoot Books are great, and they all include fun videos to go along with them.

Walking Through the Jungle

I chose to do this book with all of my classes. So I have actually done it with grades 1, 3 and 6.

Yes, it’s easy and fun enough for grade 1s to follow along and still cool for grades 6s if we just build in some slightly more testing activities to go along with it.

As usual, I planned this to go on for two lessons. As a side note, I’ve actually adapted this song to fit with our goodbye routine as follows:

Original:

Walking through the jungle,
Walking through the jungle.
What do you see?
What do you see?
I think I see a lion,
Roar! Roar! Roar!
Chasing after me,
Chasing after me.

I quite often use this variant for saying goodbye:

Walking out the classroom,
Walking out the classroom,
What do you see?
What do you see?
I think I see the teacher,
Blah! Blah! Blah!
Saying goodbye to me,
Saying goodbye to me.

And that gives them some smiles. Teachers are always going blah, blah, blah.
